# Can disciplines be modified after database creation

At that point we focus on specify 7.12 data base adjustment. There are two main Divisions which are named as Department of Geology, Department of Biology. The main problem is the selection of desired Disciplines for each mentioned Division. We need to register custom disciplines names during data base adjustment. We do not know if custom discipline can be registered after accomplishment of initial data base adjustment. We have stacked data base configuration at that point.

Yes, you can absolutely add and rename Disciplines after the initial setup is complete. In Specify, the “Discipline” is a level of the hierarchy that sits under a “Division” (what you’ve called your Departments). While the system configuration process asks you to pick from a list of standard templates (like Ichthyology, Entomology, or Geology), these are essentially just starting points for your data schema.
